OCChallenge fic

Number four of five of the [livejournal.com profile] occhallenge shortfics, this time nearly post-story.

Title: Jump into the Wild
Author: Estirose
Fandom: Kamen Rider Kiva
Rating: 13+
Wordcount: ~600
Prompt: Table 2, "Country"
Summary: Aya lets her father and Riki know about their new dimension's unique attributes.

Aya looked carefully around as she returned from using the bathroom. Or, rather, returned from using a spot that was nice and isolated and she didn't feel weird dropping her pants to go. She wasn't used to the countryside, not used to the country, not used to no bathrooms or other signs of civilization. Her Merman ancestors were used to living wild in the wilderness, but she wasn't.

She wondered how she'd handle her period, and if she'd have them anymore, or if that was something that Dr. Hamagaki and the others had 'fixed'. After all, she wasn't supposed to be fertile; somebody might have been compassionate enough to take the monthly pain out of her life.

Riki-san, their Franken companion, was leaning against a rock. He looked content, peaceful. Free. Her father was sitting beside him, not talking either. "Dad," she said, once she was certain that her pants were zipped and everything, "What do we do now? The Fangaire are sure to be looking for us, and the humans will be looking for us as well."

"We can take care of the humans," her father said lazily. "And we'll just have to make sure the Fangaire don't find us."

"It's not the humans looking for us on behalf of the Fangaire that I'm worried about," she said. "It's the humans that want to take us off the Fangaires' hands."

That elicited a slow "Eh?" from Riki-san, and a confused look from her father.

"Kuramae-san said that there are humans out there that would love to take our breeding into their own hands," Aya said, noting the small groan from her father at the mention of the Fangire's name. "The Fangaire have problems with them; we don't have the strength in numbers. I've confirmed what he's said; at times, there have been groups who have overpowered a Fangaire for breeding; there are only three of us here, and the Fangaire are showing our names and faces; I can't imagine that there aren't those out there who know we're in the area and would want to capture us."

"They wouldn't do that with Riki," her father said proudly. "And we can jump into the water. We can stay underwater far longer than any human."

"And even if we avoid these humans," Aya said, "We still have to get my brothers and sisters out here. And raise them right under the Fangaire's collective noses. Somehow I think they want to run the whole thing."

"We'll find a home, Aya," her father said. "One where we can't be found by the Fangaire... or by humans."

"I hope so... and I hope Jiro-san and Megumi are safe as well." Jiro-san probably didn't trust her. Heck, she didn't trust her, because she'd turn the three fullbloods in if she had a chance. But she wasn't going to tell her father that. Not with Riki-san there. She wasn't suicidal and so she wasn't going to enrage a Franken.

"They'll be fine. Jiro's *smart*." Her father was grinning. "You worry too much, Aya."

"Somebody has to," she muttered. Somebody had to. And she would do it.

She was their tribal guardian, after all.
