A child of a Sagarc and a Kivat is truly a wondrous thing. Sharing the flat body of the Sagarc and the wings of the Kivat, they resemble graceful, aerial manta rays. Unfortunately, with the rivalry between the two species, the Sagats, as they are dubbed, are very rare.

But sometimes they do happen. In this case, it happened between the King's Sagarc and his little brother's Kivat; the Sagarc being the mother. Fortunately, the King had found the previous King's Kivat; therefore, maternity leave was not a problem for the Sagarc in question, and while the Sagarc complained loudly and often about the pregnancy, in the end it birthed a healthy Sagat. The little thing was born in the King's house, attended to by an amused King and a Fangire vet who had experience with Sagarc births.

Within minutes, it was flying, and the tiny thing flew up onto the King's waiting hand. And then it tried to bite him, moving by instinct to change the King as both sides of its ancestors had done.

Of course, all it managed to do was pinch the King's finger. The King stroked it with pride and love as his Kivat partner - the Sagat's grandparent - flapped nearby in dismay. "Isn't it beautiful?" he asked the Kivat.

The Kivat, on the other hand, seemed unsure of what to make of his Sagat grandchild. "It's tiny," he said finally.

"I'll give it to Wataru," he said finally. "His Kivat's the father, after all."

The Sagarc chittered angrily at the suggestion that the father have anything to do with the child, and suggested to the King that it was not going to leave its child with its father without proper supervision.

"My son is perfectly capable of raising a child," the Kivat told it.

The King, in the meantime, continued stroking the baby Sagat. "And I think that given what he is, Wataru should have a companion that's like him. He needs to transition to being Saga anyway."

Not that the Sagat could ever make anyone transform, but the King knew that his younger brother would love the Sagat for what it was and would be happy to make peace between the Sagat's two parents.

The Sagarc looked at the Kivat and arrogantly tried to get up. It managed a wobbly flight before it settled back down. It then gave its opinion on how well the Kivats were doing supporting the royal family and how it would be proud to serve the King's younger brother.

"He *has* a partner," the Kivat said. He watched his grandchild carefully as the contented Sagat floundered up to try to bite the King's nose.

The Sagarc disagreed loudly. It was clear that it would have floated off to the King's brother had it not been recovering from the birth.

"Don't worry, I'll introduce you and the child to Wataru soon," the King smoothed, catching the Sagat in his hands and removing it from his nose. He returned the baby to the exhausted mother. "I promise."

The Sagarc, had it been possible, would have beamed with pride. The Kivat grumbled.

The King smiled and stroked the Sagat once more.
