15 Minute Ficlet #153 (PRTF, Trip/Katie)
As a side note, I removed the first of my fics from fanfiction.net today. I'll keep going until I have 3-4 left. In the meantime, since my muses are having the very first Kamen Rider and Tomorrow People random picnic and not being useful, I'm writing this PRTF Kate/Trip ficlet instead. This is an answer to the 15 minute ficlets challenge #153, the word is somewhere in the text.
Title: Tired Strength, Loving Other
Author: Estirose
Fandom: Power Rangers Time Force
Pairing: Trip/Katie
Rating: PG at most
Spoilers: Early eps
Summary: Trip is tired, Katie is concerned.
Tired Strength, Loving Other
Trip was tired as he made the final adjustments on the machine he was supposed to be fixing. He yawned a bit, letting it rest for the moment and trodding back up the stairs. He wasn't usually this tired, but all that had happened that day made him fatigued, making him ready to go to bed and forget about the machine, no matter what the client wanted done to it.
As he got up to the top of the clocktower, he stumbled a bit. A tiny stumble, but lucky that Jen didn't see it, for he didn't want to see her reaction. She was looking at the inventory of captured criminals, trying to determine how many they had left. Had he not been so exhausted, he could have told her how many.
"Trip?" A gentle voice, the gentle voice of his teammate Katie steadied him. She was strong enough for the both of them, and Trip found himself relaxing more than he usually dared against her. "You all right?"
"I will be," Trip said, drawing himself back up. "I just... misstepped."
"You tripped," Katie corrected him. She put him at arms' length, staring at him in concern. "You all right?"
If Katie had been telepathic like he was, a mind reader like he was, she wouldn't have had to ask. She'd have known, and there would have been no way to lie to her. But Katie wasn't Xybrian, though humans were sometimes excellent at prying things out of others, telepathy or no. Katie was especially good at it.
"Just tired. Ransik's attack, and I was doing that machine repair for that client, and...."
"You lost track of time." Katie gave him a half-amused look, though her eyes weren't in it. Concern laced her expression and her emotions.
"Yeah." A simple word, a slang word here in this time. Trip wondered how much of this century would impact his life and his speech in his own century.
"Trip...."
Trip gave her a small smile. She didn't understand, none of them did. They all had their own obsessions; Trip just preferred computers that didn't talk back and didn't flood him with their emotions. At least not yet.
"I'll be okay, Katie," he said. "I just need to rest."
Kate gave him a single nod, looking less than sure that she wanted to let him go. He silently willed her to, not wanting Jen to ask any questions, not wanting her to realize the relationship that was forming right under her nose.
"Please?" he pleaded. "I'll be...."
"Fine," Katie responded finally, letting him go, reluctantly returning to the small kitchen area.
He found that he missed her strength as he plodded further into the room.
