Nostalgia

I was a tad late on starting the [livejournal.com profile] finalauraburst update today because I ended up running across a rather old series I remembered watching when it aired in 1988.

It was called "Werewolf" and featured a fellow named John J York who played a guy named Eric (or Erik, I'm not sure). He ended up getting turned into a werewolf in episode 1, and spent the rest of the broadcast run trying to find the head of his bloodline and kill that head so he could be cured. Werewolves were not cute and cuddly in this universe, to put it politely. This was a standard Fugitive-type setup with a werewolf twist, so it was hardly revolutionary television.

Whenever Eric was going to change into a werewolf, a mark (I think it was a pentagram with circle) appeared on his hand (and often bled). He did not have control (for the most part, I believe) over his changes.

I was surprised on how much I remembered the episodes I saw (I saw three of them out of 28), considering this aired nearly 20 years ago. I'll go and start from the beginning (depending on how long the series stays up) and rewatch them to see how many more of them I remember.

John J. York...I don't know for sure, but I think he's the guy who played (still plays?) Mac on General Hospital. (Yeah, I used to like GH, before most of my favourites were either axed or recast.) The show you're talking about, though, while I've never heard of it before, sounds quite interesting. I may have to get the husband to hunt it up for me.

I used to watch GH too, mostly during the Ned & Lois arc. I checked Google, and he not only was Mac, he still is Mac! Wow.

There's a bit of a Wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Werewolf_%28TV_series%29) and a fan website (http://www.werewolftv.com/) I found on Google for the series Werewolf, if you're interested in learning more.

*blinks*

Wow. Funky. (Can't believe I actually remembered that!) I watched GH mostly when Jonathan Jackson played Lucky (and I'm still annoyed that I didn't discover the show until after Stone died and Robin became HIV positive).

I am indeed interested in learning more. Thanks for the links!

I *loved* that show when I was a kid! Werewolves are my favorite of the classic monsters so I was all over this show. Kudos to you for remembering so much. You are right on with everything you listed.

When people talk about John J York these days, they're always like: "He's from GH." And I'm always like, "He's from Werewolf!"
