Of course we had to wait a week for this week's episode - and of course, it both exceeded my expectations and disappointed me. However, I want to try my hand at summarizing the episode, based on what I could make out of the episode (with a little help from the TV-Asahi summary).

Gatack Zecter hovers

A room with concrete walls lined with pipes. A ZECT trooper stands guard, while men work on computers, monitoring. Mishima is standing in front of the technicians, watching something.

Someone in ZECT armor puts a belt on. The belt is like Kabuto's. We don't see who it is. Mishima says something to the figure, who walks into a metal room/box as the doors open.

The doors close behind the figure. Mishima is still watching. A blue Zecter, same general form factor as Kabuto, rises up as the figure waits. The Zecter flexes its jaws.

Switch to the room outside. We can hear noises as Mishima says something to an alarmed technician and trooper, as something causes dents in the metallic wall. Suddenly, the figure escapes out of the metal box, crashing into the table with the computer equipment. Mishima looks on as the figure writhes in pain. As the doors close, the Zecter hovers inside.

Up on a computer screen, Tadokoro's name flashes up. He's the one who was in the room, but was rejected by the Zecter. There are several names above him; ZECT has been apparently been trying to find a host for this Zecter for a while now, even trying people with not much chance of Zecter compatibility (Tadokoro's is 16%).

Mishima is talking to Kagami's father, who is polishing a stringed instrument - a cello. They mention Kagami (possibly as the next test subject for the Zecter?). The scene turns to Kagami, who is talking on a cell phone. Cut back to the Zecter, which is stll hovering in its metallic room with lots of dents.

Opening credits. Tendou, Kagami, Hiyori, Kageyama are all credited. Daisuke is not, but Tsurugi (Sasword) and his butler Jiiya are, as is Tendou's sister and Kagami's father.

The Tendou house. Tendou is cooking. His sister runs in to greet him, and he serves her breakfast. Likewise, Tsurugi is having breakfast as well. Both Tendou's sister and Tsurugi are enjoying their breakfasts, and are talking to their respective servers (Tendou and Jiiya respectively.) Jiiya talks at Tsurugi a bit more.

Kagami and Misaki are waiting outside a factory and talking. Misaki receives a telephone call about Tadokoro and leaves in a hurry, Kagami left behind to watch the factory. He decides to jump the fence and go in, drawing his gun for protection. He runs into a factory technician.

He talks for a while to the factory technician, and then opens his cellphone. The technician knocks it away, and its display fluctuates numbers as the tecnician turns into a Worm. Kagami shoots at it, but is now surrounded by worms.

When all seems hopeless, Kagami hears a yell. A kid calls him "big brother" and motions Kagami to come in his direction. "Hurry!" he yells as Kagami hesitates. Kagami decides to join the boy, losing his gun in the process, but also losing the Worms, who are too bulky to follow them. The boy leads Kagami down a hatch, which Kagami shuts behind him. They both crawl through some sort of machinery.

Tendou goes to visit the Bistro La Salle. Hiyori is sitting in a chair in front of the door. They look at each other for a moment. Apparently there's something going on. Tendou isn't deterred from visiting.

Back to Kagami and the boy, still crawling about. They boy has a place to stay somewhere in the innards of the factory. Kagami thanks the boy for saving him. They talk, and the boy reveals how he saw the plant being taken over. The boy's name is Makoto. Something Kagami says seems to make him upset.

Cut to Tsurugi. He's calling his big sister's name as he rides in his limo. Jiiya asks something, and Tsurugi rolls down the window. They discuss something apparently a bit more pleasant. The camera pans up to show the Tokyo Tower.

In the meantime, Kagami's still with Makoto. Makoto is looking at something through some sort of telescope. He and Kagami talk. Eventually, Kagami must have convinced Makoto to leave, for the two of them are next seen trying to leave the factory. Makoto trips, his telescope-like item rolls away, and he tries to retrieve it, but is stopped by Kagami. Kagami tries to retrieve it without the Worms noticing, but is captured by a spider(?)-type Worm. He gets out of the Worm's grip, but is surrounded by several other Worms, and is forced away from Makoto.

Makoto dives to safety while Kagami gets away from the Worms. As he's leaving the factory, he encounters another set of Worms and gets onto a forklift. Thankfully the key is in the ignition, and he drives it out, scattering Worms.

Tsurugi and Jiiya arrive at the Bistro La Salle. Hiyori seems surprised, and Tsurugi starts examining the place. Jiiya comes in with a basket and tablecloths. Jiiya sets a table for Tsurugi. Hiyori takes some dishes to the counter and talks to Tendou, who is now in a chef's uniform. He says something to draw Tsurugi's attention.

Kagami continues to drive the forklift. A figure in a suit approaches - it's him, or rather, a Worm that's assumed his form. Kagami, not keen on getting killed by his doppelganger, rams the forklift straight at the false form. The Worm shifts to its normal form just before the forklift hits, stopping the forklift. Kagami is tossed out of the forklift and is at the mercy of the Worm when the Shadow team arrives, blasting at the monster. Kageyama, already henshined and in cast-off form, fights the monster.

After a few rounds, the Worm spews spidersilk at Kageyama and disappears off. Kageyama dehenshins. He's in full shadow uniform, and is clearly not keen on the Worm's disappearance. He and Kagami have an argument, possibly about Makoto, but definitely about the Worm.

Kagami then, with Misaki, visits Tadokoro in the hospital. Tadokoro is bandaged over one eye. Kagami talks to the two of them. Whatever he's arguing about, Misaki and Tadokoro aren't keen on. Kagami is astounded.

He is walking down a hallway when Mishima says something to him about Tadokoro-san. That gets Kagami's attention. They talk. Something about Gatack and the greatest of the Riders. When Misaki comes out, she sees Mishima talking softly to Kagami, who runs off. She chases after him, calling his name, and glares at Mishima.

Back to the Bistro La Salle, where Hiyori is serving Tsurugi. She places a bowl down, Jiiya moves it. She puts a plate down. Jiiya moves that. In annoyance, she moves it back. As Jiiya goes to move it again, Tsurugi hisses his name in annoyance.

Hiyori goes into the kitchen. Tsurugi starts eating, and says something to Jiiya, offering him a sample. Jiiya may not be pleased by the food, and goes into the kitchen to cook it right. Hiyori and Tendou talk as they watch Jiiya cook.

Tsurugi likes this plate much better. He also likes the soup; it sounds like Hiyori might have made it. Tsurugi is pleased, and says something about a birthday. Tsurugi is really enthused about something. Hiyori doesn't look that happy. She and Tendou watch them go. Tendou is eating something and seems amazed by it.

Kagami arrives at the place where Gatack is being tested for hosts. He finds Gatack's belt in a semi-open safe. (Why it's open we don't know.) Misaki tries to stop him, saying something about Tadokoro. Kagami tosses her off, looking unhappy and desperate, and holds up the belt, which opens the metallic room's door. The belt has green electricity running up and down it.

He rushes in to the room, Misaki unable to stop him. She pounds on the door, calling his name, as he puts the belt on. The Gatack Zecter rises up to face him. He says something apparently to it, then addresses it by name, while Misaki keeps pounding on the door and calling his name. It flies up to him, as if to examine him, and then backpedals. It then flies right at him, and the scene cuts back to Misaki as it sounds like Gatack Zecter attacks Kagami. A few more dents form as Misaki looks on, horrified.

Eventually, Kagami tubles out of there, Misaki still screaming his name. He collapses on the floor. He's bleeding at the temple, and seems not to be in very good shape. Misaki continues to shake the unconscious Kagami as the doors close on a floating Gatack Zecter, which is flexing its mandibles.

On the other side of the room, Mishima has been observing the whole thing. As Misaki tries to wake Kagami up, he leaves.

Hiyori seems to be closing the Bistro La Salle, as Tendou examines the food. His cell phone rings. Whatever the caller is saying at the other end, he looks surprised, asking "What?" and something about Kagami. Hiyori turns as Kagami's name comes up.

Misaki is the one on the other end. Misaki talks to Tendou, something about Kagami and the Worm. We see Kagami in the ICU, being protected by ZECT troopers. Tendou eventually ends the call, much to Misaki's surprise. She isn't happy about that. Tendou is thinking something about Kagami.

Cut back to where Kagami is. Misaki and a still-in-hospital Tadokoro are visiting the unconscious Kagami. Neither of them is happy, in particular Tadokoro, who elects to leave. Misaki takes him out of the room and past the troopers.

Someone in white scrubs and a mask goes past the troopers. Inside, doctors or technicians are in Kagami's room. One approaches Kagami's bedside, reaching out as if to touch Kagami's throat. He is stopped by another person in scrubs, who takes off the first one's mask. The first person in scrubs is Kagami - or rather, the Worm that was imitating him. The other is Tendou. Tendou quotes his grandmother, says something about Kagami and the Worm.

The Worm assumes its natural shape, and is momentarily sidetracked by the arrival of the Kabuto Zecter. Tendou henshins, and the Worm dives over the bed to go after him, tossing them both through the wall in the process. They fall towards the ground, Tendou Casting Off and Clocking Up while doing so.

Kageyama, in the meantime, is fully henshined and cast off, and is directing the Shadow troopers towards the factory. They aim their guns at something at his command.

Makoto still hides in the factory while the Worms rampage.

Tendou and the Kagami-Worm fight. Tendou does a Rider Kick but the Kagami-Worm uses some other Worms as fodder and Tendou gets them instead. Tendou is faced with more Worms.

In the meantime, Kagami is rushed through the hospital.

And the Gatack Zecter floats in its room, waiting for a compatible host, opening and closing its mandibles at the camera as the episode ends.

Notes:
* Drake/Daisuke doesn't appear except in the omake, and Tsurugi doesn't henshin at all.
* Gatack is referred to as Gatakku on the air and on TV-Asahi's site, so I've guessed how to translate it.

I'll have to see if I want to summarize episode 22. Or maybe I'll leave that to someone who actually understands Japanese better than I do.
