Kind of end of year fic review, but with the added challenge of memeish stuff.

And I have finished NaNoWriMo. Yay! (Kercollapse) Now if I'd only managed a complete plot outline for novel #1. *sigh* But thanks to Meg Cabot's little pep talk, I did finish!

In the typo department, here's one that was a bit Tomorrow People-influenced:

"If you two promise to not break out in the car," Emery's grandmother said, "I'll leave you to your fun."

(The funny thing is, Emery can apport - teleport other things - and possibly teleport herself, so....)

Between the full novel and the aborted one, I managed about 65,000 words. Whew!

Now, I'll post the last bit of the novel to esti_rise at some point in the next 24 hours. I also want to put together all of novel #2's posts (so far) and add them to a master post that can be added to the Queen's Gambit post on estorise (I have plot bunnies complaining about wanting a rewrite on a fic I've got as a WIP).

I couldn't have done it without the web program "Write or Die". The novel might have been less cohesive because of it, but it got me through. ("Write or Die" is very useful for NaNo. The fic "Worn Down Blood" was also mostly written in "Write or Die".)

I'm grabbing this meme from lots of people.

1) Make a list of 10 characters.
2) Assign each character a number.
3) Without telling anyone who's on the list or the character's assigned number, get questions from your readers about what they'd like to know about them.

IE: "If 3 and 4 were trapped in a cave together with only a blanket and a toothpick, what would they do?"

4) Post the answers and who was who on the list.

(I'm sure I've done this before, but I can't remember when.)

I'm actually doing this with two sets of entries. One is mostly for myself, because I want to be challenged with the characters I used in my NaNoWriMo project last year. One is for the public. Since I'm going to take a page from germankitty's book and answer before I reveal the people, let me know if you want one or both. (That is, the fandom list and/or the novel list.) If you don't, I'll assume you want the fandom list.

(I'd mention fandoms, but mine are literally all over the place.)

While I'm trying to answer my last meme, here's another:

1. Pick out a line or two from one of my stories. It must be a full line - no sentence fragments or speech tags.
2. I will respond with which story of mine I think it's from.
3. The drabble of your choice to anyone who stumps me.

I have the original userpics meme here (I've done one Charmed and one Kamen Rider Blade drabble). However, since I make more LJ icons than I use on my personal LJ, I'd like to extend that challenge to include the icons in my archive.

Therefore, the original challenge still stands: Choose an icon, tell me which one it is, and I'll write you a 100-word, stream of consciousness, non-beta'd drabble. If you want to make it easier for me to find, tell me which section it's in (for example, "King All The Cards in Kamen Rider Blade").

Choose up to 10 of your fics. Write a question for each of them (like a question in a story guide) and see if people can answer them.
ETA: BTW, this is open-book. Looking up the answers is not only allowed but encouraged. :)

Here are my first lines for 2006, with commentary in parentheses.

January: I've gotten Inkwell 3.0 up to 100 fics. (And I'm now about to hit 2007, and I'm only up to 190. Bleh.)

February: The corner of Hunter's mouth quirked up in a small semi-grin. (Line from "Breeze Twice Blown" being quoted.)

March: Octavia E. Butler, one of the few well-known black female science fiction writers, died February 25, 2006, from injuries sustained in a fall. (And I still wish she hadn't died....)

April: This was a ficlet that tptigger and I wrote. (Refers to "Fast Food", one of our "White" universe ficlets.)

May: I've decided to keep my personal stuff somewhere else, leaving this journal for the fandom stuff. (Yes, I have a personal journal. No, I haven't updated it lately. Bleh.)

June: I'm still here and sane, but barely. (And then I ranted about fics I still haven't finished, for the most part.)

July: I've now seen the TV-N sub of 21 and 1/3 of the raw for 22, so some minor thoughts and spoilers. (This would be Kamen Rider Kabuto. And they're still good eps.)

August: Well, have some time and are a PR fan, anyway.... (Note about the Hope for the World fanfic awards. I don't think I won anything. *Checks* Nope, I didn't. I'm still wondering how the ones that did win, won.)

September: I did get my finish-a-thon assignment today. (It was "Kuroonningen". I finished it and posted it.)

October: I've just added a few new text icons. (And I'm surprised nobody caught the "Gauntlet" reference.)

November: Well, I've managed to finish day two of nanowrimo with slightly higher than expected wordcount. (Pretty much 90% of my entries that month started with "Nano day __")

December: I've tried archive.org (I have to, since selma.pair.com doesn't exist anymore) and all my computers, and I seem to be short a copy of "Different Assignments, Same Idea", which I promised to finish for Beth. (I found the fic. It's hiding in the as-yet-unvalidated queue on Rosegarden. And I need to go read/validate a fic there, I see.)

I bet that the question I missed, ironically enough, had to do with English grammar....

This meme is so simple, I know I've done it before.

1. Put your player on Random
2. Choose your favorite lyrics from 25 songs. (I did 10)
3. Let people guess the song, and cross out the ones that are guessed correctly.

I have a lot of music with Japanese lyrics, but I got lucky and only one Japanese-language song came up. I've credited the site that I grabbed the lyrics from with that entry.
