I have a lot of OCs. Some are long retired, some are more recent. For my own amusement, and perhaps the amusement of others, I put a bunch of them in a short fic.

It was a very large place, but somehow, they'd all found their way to the enormous dining room. Nobody was sure how they'd gotten there, but there were rooms to rest in, and good food, and the feeling that they'd all get home, which was all that really mattered.

Greer Lewis handed a cup of fizzy apple juice to a young woman with a pale blue aura next to her. The young woman smiled and thanked her quietly, and sipped at the juice. "It's good," she said, as if she'd never had it before. "Hey, Keegan, taste this!"

The fact that the girl and her companion had come in as balls of light didn't seem to disturb anyone; the place seemed to project calm and nonthreateningness.

Most of the people seemed human-normal, which meant nothing. After all, she looked human-normal, and she could live for centuries; probably people around her could too.

The most obvious non-humans were, besides Keegan and his wife, a glowing, vaguely humanoid shape that was talking to a few of the others, and a person or two of apparent asian ancestry with green hair.

"It seems that there's more drinks coming," a woman said, settling in next to Greer. She'd previously introduced herself as Darla Bennington, a book dealer. "And the servant staff - they seem all quite spectral, but they have things well in hand."

"Did they find Aya her bath?" Greer asked. "The boy that escorted her in asked if these people had an ocean somewhere that they could use."

Darla nodded. "She wasn't too happy with him being there, but he seems to have her well in hand."

She looked over. One of the green-haired men was having an argument with the other. Well, it looked like the woman next to one of the green-haired men was too. "Did someone say that those two were related?" she asked.

Darla put her finger to her lips. "I'm not sure," she admitted. "Let me go ask someone."

That was how things were. If one person didn't know, someone else was sure to know. Darla got up, and Greer watched her lazily as she walked across the room to ask the people with the glowing humanoid alien.

The argument between the two green-haired men wasn't the only one going on. An argument erupted between two asian girls in their late teens or early twenties. Greer remembered that the younger of the two had insisted on hitting on every young woman in the room, including herself.

Darla had moved from the group with the glowing alien to an asian woman that seemed to be paying attention to everything. She was mostly ignoring the two other asian women sitting nearby. Greer had met one of them, a woman named Naoko Matsumoto, who had raided a library that she said was up a very dark flight of stairs that was hidden behind some wall panel. Naoko had apparently gotten in there a few days before Greer had.

Greer scanned the room. A woman who had introduced herself as Marie Brown stared into one of the fireplaces; Greer had to wonder what, if anything, Marie was seeing in the flickering fire. The fire was odd, too, seemingly going down or building up of its own accord.

Her husband was having a talk with an asian man in his twenties, and they were discussing amateur investigation techniques, especially involving the Internet as a source of information. She smiled and shook her head at that. A young woman of caucasian descent with black-striped brown hair seemed to be listening to them, as did a black kid who had split from the green-haired men's argument.

Darla came back. "It seems that they're grandfather and grandson," she said, indicating the two green-haired men. "And they're arguing about the younger's son - that's the black lad over by your husband. Apparently, he's not too young to get married." Her tone held a wry amusement. "Alien cultures are not my speciality."

"Nor mine, but it sounds like it's not a bad speciality to make," Greer acknowledged. She took a sip of her wine, and stared out. "This is an interesting place to be, but I can't wait until I get home."

"Nor I," Darla said, "As I have so much to do. But in the meantime, at least it is pleasant."

The two women drank, and watched the room, and Greer pondered about aliens, and culture, and other things as the hours went by.

-end

It would be interesting to know if anybody could I.D. any of the characters and/or where the story takes place. (Or for that matter, the species of said OCs!)
