"Mommy, look!" Taiga announced proudly, pointing in a direction Otoya couldn't see from where he was. "¶§∆∂≈!"
Otoya twisted around when Maya laughed, and followed Taiga's pointing finger with his eyes. A large dog, a Golden Retriever like Buruman, was bouncing around the field, without a care in the world.
"Dog," Otoya corrected. "That's a dog, Taiga."
"Sagarc says it's a ¶§∆∂≈," Taiga said firmly, and the hovering henshin device seemed to agree with him.
"In the human world, Taiga," Maya said, "they call it a dog."
Taiga made a face at having to learn human words, but he was learning them. His mother just smiled at him, hand resting on her stomach. Otoya wanted to kiss that stomach, knowing that somewhere inside her was their son Wataru, but he didn't want to do it in front of Taiga.
"How will you blend in to hunt if you can't speak a human language?" she pointed out to Taiga. Taiga thought about that for a moment, then nodded seriously.
Sometimes Otoya was reminded that his family was made up of energy vampires. Sometimes it made him uneasy. But he loved his family, and they loved him, and he could live with some of the uneasiness.
Some said that if your mind was too open, it would fall out. But Otoya doubted that. The great Kurenai Otoya was a genius. He also was in love. And when you were in love, species didn't matter. A lot of things didn't matter.
He smiled at the sky.
