The AU I had no clue about... decided to pop up another part.
So:
Title: For The Moment (part 2)
Author: Estirose
Rating: 8+
Summary: Taiga's baby brother was hidden from him for far too long.
Spoilers: 30+
Word count, this part: 894
Wataru watches out the window as the visitor leaves. "What was that all about?" he asks the thin air, though he half expects Kivat to answer. And then, maybe not.
"The King thinks you're his brother."
Wataru wrinkles his nose at that. He fights the Fangire as Kiva; there's no reason he should be one. He doesn't need to feed on life energy, for one. "I... guess that's better than him coming to kill me," he says, though his tone is doubtful. The absolute certainty in Nobori Taiga's tone makes him think that maybe the man is on to something.
"But... I'm not his brother. Am I?" he asks, and is disappointed when Kivat doesn't reply for a few minutes. How could a Fangire be his brother?
Kivat sighs. "Your mother often talked about how she had to leave him behind," he admits finally. "If he is truly Taiga, then he is your brother."
Wataru has to sit down at this. To be Fangire... but he isn't Fangire. "I'm not Fangire," he says out loud.
"If you weren't, you couldn't be Kiva," Kivat says. "Just be careful, Wataru. Just because he's your brother doesn't mean that he isn't dangerous to you."
Wataru stares at his partner. "I... don't know what to make of him," he says. He needs some time to think, to reconcile this with everything he thought he knew. Obviously, Nobori Taiga knows where he lives. But he probably doesn't know about Wataru being Kiva, of attacking so many of his people.
He stares at the card. Nobori Taiga, president, Development and Pioneer. Wataru sounds out the English words and wonders what kind of company Development & Pioneer is. He might have to ask either Shizuka-chan, Megumi-san, or Nago-san to find out, though explaining why might be a little bit hard. Shizuka-chan doesn't know about Fangire, after all, and Nago-san and Megumi-san would try to kill the King.
Part of him knows that he should tell them about Nobori Taiga, but another side, a newer side, wants to play things cautiously, not reveal the truth about things. Because if Nobori Taiga is his half brother, that means he is somehow Fangire too... and he doesn't want to die.
So, somehow he's going to have to find out, having no clue how. Maybe Shizuka-chan is best. She always knows what to do and how to do it.
He hesitantly picks up his phone and dials her, taking a deep breath.
"Hello? Wataru?" Shizuka-chan sounds concerned, not that he blames her.
"Shizuka-chan...." He can't think of what to say, his mind a blank.
"Wataru-kun, what's wrong? Are you sick?"
"No, Shizuka-chan," Wataru tells her. "Um. I need to find out about a company. Do you know how to do that?"
"Well, sure," Shizuka-chan says, still sounding concerned. "Why?"
"I... It's a long story, Shizuka-chan," Wataru replies. "Can you come here after school?"
"Sure," Shizuka-chan says. "Why don't you tell me the name of the company. Maybe I can find something for you now."
"Um, Development and Pioneer. Nobori Taiga, President." He rattles off the address from the card.
"Okay," Shizuka-chan says. "Is everything okay, Wataru?"
"I... I don't know," he says. Of course nothing is okay. He might be a Fangire, after all.
"I'll stop by after school," Shizuka-chan tells him. "See you then, Wataru."
And then she hangs up. Wataru hopes she can help him find out about the place. He doesn't know what to make of the King or this whole thing or anything.
Shizuka-chan shows up a few hours later, after Wataru's spent some time staring at the card, working at his violins, and playing the Bloody Rose. He was hoping that playing his father's violin would give him some insight, but lacking that, he just plays it to calm his nerves and his racing thoughts.
"I stopped at the library," Shizuka-chan says. "I found out what I could. But why are you interested in a technology-funding company?" She hands him a set of printouts, stories about the company his apparent brother owns.
"I... didn't know what kind of company it was," he confesses. He looks at the papers. "The President of the company came by here earlier, telling me that we were - are - related." The papers confirm that Nobori Taiga runs the company. Is it a Fangire company, or do the workers have no idea that their boss eats humans? Maybe he can ask.
He sort of wants to know about Nobori Taiga and that world, know about how dangerous it is and if he wants to get involved. He might not be so lucky, but he wants to give the man a chance to be someone that somewhere desperately inside him wants him to be.
"Oh," Shizuka-chan says. "He says he's related to you? Why?"
"I don't know," Wataru sets the papers aside. "But I want to find out."
"And I'll help you," Shizuka-chan vows. "Because if he wants to hurt you, then he'll have to go through me!"
Wataru smiles at this. She doesn't know he's Kiva and can defend himself. She doesn't know about Fangire at all. She doesn't know he protects the world from people like Nobori Taiga.
But that's okay. Because he'll protect her too.
