Um. Can't think of a title, yet. But here's a Masao ficlet. Spoilers for Kiva 48.
Masao extended his arm to the doctor quietly as his uncle watched. He knew his uncle was going to interrogate the doctor later - maybe a week later, but later. Or maybe they’d worked out how Uncle Taiga was going to get a report.
“This should help, King,” the doctor said, making sure there were no bubbles before injecting it into Masao. “It should make his Fangire blood more active and so extend his lifespan. But he will have to have it at least every month until a more permanent solution can be found.”
“Whatever needs to be done,” his Uncle Taiga said, folding his hands. “I’m sure once we have a new Bishop, he can awaken Masao fully.” He smiled at Masao, and Masao wished once more that his Uncle understood that he didn’t need to be fixed.
Masao knew that the energy that the Fangire lived on was perfectly safe - he himself fed on it at his Uncle’s insistence - but he didn’t want to give up his food. He wished Uncle Taiga understood that he was perfectly happy being both human and Fangire, and more Fangire than human, but it
was useless to do so. Even though Uncle Taiga depended on his father’s human upbringing to help him understand humans, he still didn’t want his family to be human. Thus, both Masao’s father and Masao fed on the life-energy substitute, and Masao lived with it. It really didn’t bother him, not the way that Uncle Taiga’s insistence making him even more Fangire did.
It was hard to rebel against Uncle Taiga though, Uncle Taiga who protected him and loved him and was the best Uncle in the world. And Masao wasn’t sure that he could. Uncle Taiga meant well, after all, and Masao found that hard to argue with.
But someday, he might have to.
