NaNo progress, day 5

estiriseWell, I hit my 10,000 word mark today (10,301 to be exact). I think I now have the longest English-language Kamen Rider Kabuto fic in existance, and I'm not even close to done at this point.
I've hit the equivalent of episode 4, which is really fun. Episode 4 actually is a great Kagami and Tendou episode, and I don't mean it in a slashy way. Kagami's head is in the clouds, and no matter how much you hope Ryou is real, you know that Tendou and Misaki are right, and he can't be. This also makes interesting story writing, because Kagami's my POV character, and even though I know he's acting stupid, I still have to write him as if he's making sense, at least to himself. (I had a fic last month where I had the same general thing happen; let's just say that the man might have been brighter than Kagami, but dang, he was stubborn....)
In the broadcast episode, you get the sense that Tendou might have a reason other than using Kagami as a conduit to ZECT. He actually looks out for Kagami, and it's not because Kagami is useful to him. It's because he wants to save people, and he happens to know Kagami more than he does the average person. I've translated that out in the context of the story, and it's come out pretty good, I think. Ryou was very easy to write, now the interesting part will come when Kagami yells at Tendou for interfering in his life. That was a great scene, and it will be a challenge to translate it out.
Tendou is the hardest character for me to write, and I try not to slip out of his dialogue patterns, but I feel like I sometimes fail. Kagami sometimes sounds too much like me for his own good too. But it is a great challenge to pound out about 2,000 words each night. I'll have to leave how good the story is to the individual reader; I'm far too hard on my own stuff, or so I'm told.
Tomorrow is day 6! I wonder if I'll finish chapter 2 and go to chapter 3, where Yaguruma comes in. Chapter 2 is definitely proving to be a long chapter. We'll have to see.
