1) You have the option of choosing five Kamen Riders to face against each other in a tournament where the victor receives your love as a prize (just pretend that they're all crazy over you and would kill for your hand in marriage like a ghetto fairy tale).
* Which five would you choose to participate?
* Which one would you prefer to win?
* Which one do you think would actually win?
Start off with a hard one, will you? :) I've only seen a few series too, so mine is going to rely heavily on later series.
*thinks* Ryoutarou (Den-O), Kagami (Kabuto), Tsurugi (Kabuto), Todoroki (Hibiki), Kenzaki (Blade)
(Reasoning: Ryoutarou because he's damn cute and I like shy characters, Kagami because he's proven himself to not give up, Tsurugi because he's zany and is willing to try things, Todoroki because, again, determined dude, and Kenzaki again for determination and cuteness.)
I'd take Ryoutarou as the one I'd want to win, just because he's such a nice guy. Would make an interesting life, though, to end up with a guy that's likely to have four extra "personalities" by end of series.
As for who would win, it would depend if they're henshined or not. Not henshined, I'd say Tsurugi. He's determined enough that he'd likely outdetermine the whole bunch (Ryoutarou, I think, would be the first to fall). Henshined, it would probably be Kagami. He has the option of clocking up. Tsurugi/Sasword might be a possibility, since he can also clock up, but Kagami has better weapons.
2) If you were a Ranger, what would your portion of the roll call say? (assuming it describes your personality/life, not your powers)
Hm. "Knowledge beats darkness,blue!" (Yellow would be my second choice, incidentally. I hate pink.)
3) Entirely standalone seasons of PR with no connection between them at all (like Sentai), or the scattered sense of continuity we sort of have right now. Which would you prefer?
I like interconnected seasons, and the sense of continuity (no matter how scattered). I mean, it's nice to play "spot the tokusatsu guest star" (Hurricanger and Boukenger), but I like the sense that these folks are part of an ever-growing, informal group.
4) So many people tend to not like Kalish-made PR seasons. Assume that you had the chance to correct that, and could choose a creator, writer, or executive producer from any other television show in existence to replace Kalish with. Who would you want to place behind the PR reins and why?
I admit, I'm not a huge television watcher, but I'd like to see James Henerson and James Hirsch. Admittedly, the series they worked on that I love so much was distinctly non-violent (Starman, 1986), but they were good at finding/writing scripts with moral messages that didn't, for the most part, hit one over the head, and the series had some very vivid characters.
5) And finally, a more general question. Fave PR, Sentai, and KR seasons. List 'em. I've never asked, so I don't know your favorites in particular, and I'm interested in knowing. :)
My Sentai viewing's a bit limited, but I'd count Timeranger, Abaranger, and Hurricanger (adapted into Time Force, Dino Thunder, and Ninja Storm respectively) as my favorites. If I was forced to name my favorite series, and I couldn't do a tie, I'd probably choose Abaranger. I loved Abaranger's storyline, especially with Mikoto (Trent's sentai counterpart) and Yatsudenwani (he's the crocodile monster in Kira's dream, but he played a more important role in Abaranger). Hurricanger would be second in line because I loved the characters (paticularly the Gouraijer, Hunter and Blake's counterparts, and the budding romance between Isshuu and Nanami, Blake and Tori's counterparts).
Power Rangers. Oooh. Ninja Storm and Time Force would probably be my faves. in Space is well-loved too, but NS and TF are my faves. I'd be in big trouble if I was asked to name my #1 series, though I'd probably say Ninja Storm. (Cam and Trip are my favorite PR Rangers, but I seem to like the slightly lighter-hearted Ninja Storm over the heavier Time Force, just out of personal preference.)
Kamen Rider is a bit easier, because I really like Kamen Rider Blade. Den-O is in the running too, and might outdo Blade eventually. I also liked Kuuga and Faiz/Phi's/555. (Blade's characters I like very much, even though I wanted to thwack Tachibana more than a few times, but the most memorable bunch are the high-level Undead. They are pretty much my favorite villain group in any series. I have yet to meet a character in Den-O that I don't like of the heroes, Kuuga had strong characters in the forms of Godai and Ichijou, and Faiz had the extremely cute but tragic Kiba Yuuji.)
