A long time ago (okay, late last year), I asked for prompts. This is one that
sage_theory gave to me: New Series Tomorrow People, with the words save, storm, and song. I was hoping for a more upbeat one, but the muse didn't want to do that.

Summary: Adam can't save everyone....
The Most Lost One
by Estirose
c 2007
If he'd had a chance, Adam thought, he would have saved the girl. But, as he grimly looked at the deceptively calm water lapping on the beach, not everybody could be saved.
She had appeared in the water, almost ghostlike, with the bad timing to be caught in the storm. By the time he had teleported out to her, she was lost, drowned, it seemed, for the second time.
The girl had been drowning even before she splashed down in the water, and this time, there was nobody and nothing to save her. Adam had wondered what had happened to her, where she'd come from, but there was really no way to tell. No story covered her disappearance that General Damon could find.
Why was she drowning when she splashed down? Had she fallen in a pool, in the ocean, made the mistake of trying to stride into a river fed by a rushing waterfall?
There hadn't been any way to tell, not with the damage the storm made. General Damon had ordered an autopsy; he told Adam that they might know soon more about her, who she was and what had happened. Until then, Adam had no clue. All he knew was that she had died, and even though General Damon had told him that it wasn't his fault, it was.
A new Tommorow Person, full of promise and the songs of life, and she'd gone.
Adam knew he wouldn't be satisfied until he knew what had happened, who had been lost, and mourned for her fully. Right now, he was full of answers, full of frustration, full of mourning, and he couldn't go on for much longer.
