I went to Power Morphicon this weekend - well, for Saturday, anyway - and I promised myself that I'd post regarding it.

I made it to Power Morphicon on Saturday, and attended five panels. (Well, four panels, a little bit of a fifth, and the stunt show, but who's counting?) If you were there, you might have seen me; I was the woman with the green-blue hair streak. Yes, I am unashamedly a Den-O fan. Yes, I did resemble a cross between Deneb!Yuuto and Ura!Ryo. No, nobody caught that there.

I arrived way early due to a miscalculation on how much of Union Station I had to go through to transfer between lines. So, for the first hour of my morning, I waited for registration to open. Once that opened, things went smoothly, and I easily got my con badge.

While waiting for the MMPR panel to start, I kept looking at a girl behind me, who looked vaguely familiar. This turned out later to be [livejournal.com profile] wyndstormhntrss. (I apologize to her for my semi-stalkeryness during the day, since I am a bit shy and she was a bit busy, so I didn't want to interrupt her.)

The MMPR panel was fun. They discussed everything from the beginning, to various ideas, to practical jokes, and even to the Spoiler That Could Not Be Discussed. I started liveblogging in the middle of it, just as Walter was discussing his latest commercials and Ed (the guy who played Lord Zedd) showed up on stage, surprising everybody.

After that panel, I hit the dealer's room. Not much to look at, so I waited for the stunt show. The stunt show was more interesting than I thought it would be; they did several fight sequences, and two cases where they pulled volunteers from the audience. And we had four actors there as well - I was only sitting a few rows behind Dan Southworth (Eric Myers), it turned out.

(This, incidentally, would be a pattern all day. The only surprise guest I didn't get to see/meet was Deborah Estelle Phillips, Katie from PRTF.)

I had a choice on the next panel, I went to the Bulk and Skull panel, which turned out to be Jason Narvy and only Jason Narvy, Paulie not being able to make it in time. Not that I really noticed, because Jason is a laugh riot in himself. Which happened to be a good thing, as I ended up going to three panels with him in them. Jason is working on his Doctorate right now. He teaches classes, and every semester he awards extra credit to those students who can figure out what he acted in. He actually had a very interesting point about audience participation in Shakespearean times - that the questions are meant to be asked to the audience, not just internal introspection for the speaker. He did do a bit of Shakespeare, and he's a wonderful actor. He also managed the famous "Skull laugh", which brought down the room - we were all pretty much old-school PR fans in there. (The rest were in the Operation Overdrive panel, which I didn't attend because I haven't seen it yet.)

Next up was another visit to the dealers' room, where I scored a copy of a couple weeks' old Terebi magazine. It had a bit of Den-O coverage, including Imagin masks, an interview with the actresses for Naomi and Hana, and a six-page article on the show. Being a few weeks old meant that it was covering Ryuutaros and not anything after.

The next panel I attended, "Unsung Heroes", started rather late. While trying to find the darn panel, I hung around the room it was supposed to be in - and incidentally met Latham Gaines (Anton/Mesogog), who signed an autograph for me. He's a nice guy. Anyway, this was a panel of non-Red Rangers and other folk, which meant that we had Jason Narvy (Skull), Gareth (Dax, OO's Blue Ranger - his counterpart was Souta in Boukenger), "Will" (OO Black?), Latham Gaines, Neil Kaplan (multiple voices), and Richard B of Mystic Force (Xander). Neil and Latham both enjoy playing bad guys over good guys (as Latham put it, he got more flexibility as Mesogog than he did as Anton). Neil is voicing Optimus Prime, which probably surprised a few people, as one of his latest voices was Hawkmon from Digimon. He did a great job at doing Hawkmon as Optimus Prime. Gareth is a big Transformers fan and he shares my love of the character of Bumblebee. What surprised me is that Richard tested with an American accent, but somehow by the time he got to filming he ended up being told to use his natural one.

After Unsung Heroes, I dropped by the tail end of the stunt panel (not to be mistaken for the stunt show) and listened to Dan Southworth talk for a few minutes, before the Pretty and Powerful panel started. The only thing I disliked about the panel is that nobody bothered to introduce the cast, and so I sat there figuring who was who for half the panel, as I only recognized two of the actresses at the start. (I later figured out that two of them were in OO, which I don't watch, and heaven knows why I didn't recognize Monica May when I could recognize Alicia and Emma.) They fielded quite a few questions, including whether they'd seen their sentai counterparts and whether they'd seen the show before they started. (Some had, some hadn't, both on the Sentai question and the seeing before question. Sadly, Emma's left the music business; she says she enjoys singing and playing more when she's not doing it professionally.

I didn't get to see any of the other panels as I had to leave for the day (well, completely, since I needed to be going home the next day). But I heard it was great. I'm going to the next one, if there is a next one.

I had a good time at the con, despite some foot-in-mouth-itis on my part (yeah, there's a reason I mention that in my profile), and I hope to go to a con like that again.

I'm so sorry I didn't get a chance to hang out with you more! But yes, things were really crazy 1) Because I was still reeling from losing my camera, and 2) Dude, it was Power Morphicon!

It was really awesome getting to meet you and I hope we can do something like this soon. There's a strong chance I will be in the Santa Monica/LA/Valencia area in December, so maybe we can have a not-nearly-as-rushed sit down get together lunch type thing or something then.
