Den-o episode 31 raw thoughts

I won't even try to summarize the plot on this one, but spoilers for it anyway.


This episode deals with Yuuto, his last remaining card, and something to do with Airi, the Milk Dipper, and some guy pursuing her. Which of course also has to do with Yuuto. And of course, it looks like the major stuff (the Yuuto/Airi relationship and Yuuto's last card) will be dealt with heavily next week as well.

Some thoughts:
* This episode has one Imagin that lasts 1/10th of the way through the episode and seems to be there to show Yuuto's growing helplessness.
* A return of non-climax forms! Axe and Gun return. I guess Ryo's ties to Ura, Kin, and Ryuu have been restored since 28.
*Ryo actually asks for Ryuu. This is a change from before, when Ryuu was never asked and never bothered to ask permission. Of course, this might have to do with their little discussion earlier in the episode, but it still counts.
* Ryuu still doesn't like Yuuto, of course.
* I so like Kin. Even if he's sexist and not too bright. And Ryo is growing into his role as a battle commander of sorts, deciding which Imagin to call in various situations.
* Dang, Ryuu was a bad choice to call after all...

Re: Ryuu

I really like the maturing of the relationship between Ryou and Ryuu. Ryuu seems finally to be respecting Ryou's boundaries, and Ryou rewards that with trust and kindness. I think Ryuu really wants that, and his reaction to Ryou being like, "I'll call you," was just, wow. It almost made me forget he is a very dangerous/insane guy in favor of the woobie. And I was so happy to see him trying to be mature with Yuuto (even if he doesn't quite fully suceed...).

Unfortunately, I think Ryuu's craving for Ryou's trust/respect is what caused all those problems in the end. It seems like he wants to show Ryou the trust wasn't misplaced, that he can handle everything for Ryou. (Which, in his defense, has been true in the past to a (too) extreme extent.) I think Ryuu thinks if he calls on the others for help, Ryou will think he's weak and will hesitate to/refrain from calling on Ryuu again.

Ryuu and Ryou have a really interesting relationship due to the depth of their connection that I hadn't really thought about before...

Re: Yuuto

So, the whole plot going on was: Back in the day, Airi borrowed some money, but she didn't remember it, since it was before the Sakurai incident. So, she was defaulting on her payments, and the dudes came to reposess everything. But, as it turns out, the man who owns the company who did the lending actually really wanted to be with Airi (who doesn't???), so he offers her a marriage to him in exchange for him paying her debt (10,000,000 Yen, ~$86,000). She turns him down, which makes him fly off the handle, because *he* remembers Sakurai and thinks he was a big jerk. (He also seems to know about Airi's memory loss...?) At first Airi is like, "Why are you so angry at Ryou's friend?" but the guy sets her straight that he means her ex-fiance. This, as I'm sure you've figured out, seems to be jogging her memory.

Switching gears: I'm the first to admit that I zone out when Hana or Yuuto is talking about the actual plot (I'm in it for the LOLZ), but man, did I miss something or what? Because, well, my reaction to this bit (emphasis mine):

Ryou: Hey, maybe you are Airi's Yuuto.
Yuuto: I thought I told you that already.

was, "What? He did?? What??" So, either Yuuto is just saying stuff (Ryou seems kind of thrown off here too, so...), or I need to PAY ATTENTION. Anyway, I think this plot juncture was well planned, because basically Yuuto is moving away from KR Zeronos, and towards Airi's fiance(?)/Crazy watch man(?) and such. The character is changing as well, not in personality, but portrayal of said personality. The Yuuto Yuuto is showing us is a different Yuuto than he played himself off as to begin with, which is, well, awesome, I think.
