Actually, since I'm aiming at 29,000 today, it's more than that wordcount wise.
So, sometimes things in your novel don't quite happen as you expected, which in my novel is perfectly exemplified in this one quote:
"So how do I stop people with portal technology from creating a portal into my world and... er... forcefully adopting it?"
Um. Yeah. When I vaguely plotted this thing out, the worst problem my protagonist had was dealing with a teenager with extreme homesickness that was disrupting things. Good thing I put this in the Science Fiction category, because, well, now she has to deal with the antagonist kind of falling for her and potentially the antagonist's people, who have the technology to create interdimensional portals and have absolutely no problem taking over the world... or at least the protagonist's home town.
(Incidentally, the answer to the above quote is "You don't.")
Yeah, the novel is going to go take a nice right turn while I figure out how to deal with the whole problem.
This will be *interesting*...
