Kiva 10/11 and 12 preview thoughts

* I liked Omura very much. He was a character who had failings, and realized he did have failings. I hope we see more flashbacks of him.
* That being said, nothing ate Omura's soul (that bit of light that the dragon castle eats every episode), so maybe he'll come back? (Yeah, I like him.)
* I like Nago's henshin. I really, really do not like Nago. I mean, going after an out of control Fangaia is one thing, crushing the music player is another. It's good characterization, I just... kinda wanted Wataru to get the music player.
* Otoya comes out interesting in this one. He plays bait, talks to Omura, convinces him to stop killing, and attacks (pretty much) Yuri and Jiro with a fire extinguisher. He ain't gonna be popular guy at the Cafe!

* So, Wataru is thinking about how to make his own unique violin, strolls into a park, and runs across the new regular, who has an electric guitar. Wataru certainly was secluded in his house, wasn't he? I wonder if he even ever went to school.
(If this were "Boxed In", I'd have said that it was done to hide Wataru's nature. But since it's not, it'll be interesting to know why Wataru grew up as he did.)
* Wataru takes to the guitar like a duck to water. Which is not surprising, because Wataru seems to perceive the important things as music. Music is how he finds the fangaia, and music is how he found Megumi one ep.
* I can see it now. Wataru is going to take a lot of musical influences and incorporate them into his own unique violin.
* Yuri's letting Otoya follow her around. Interesting. Especially since he'd sprayed fire extinguisher at them the episode before.
* This confirms Yuri is dead, though the only thing that's clear on her marker is that she died before 2000.
* Megumi gets drunk for laughs.
* On Yuri's age and the timeline. Something isn't computing in the flashback with the dates given.
1. Yuri was born in 1966, making her 20 in 1986. (Yuri's marker)
2. Yuri's mother died in 1984. (Yuri's mother's marker)
3. Yuri was dressed as a middle-school/Junior high school girl.
So, why was a presumably 17-18 year old Yuri dressed in a middle-schooler's outfit?
* We get to see IXA version 0.5 in 1986. It... needs a lot of work. For a bit, I thought it was steam-powered.
* Jiro is wielding it, making this Matsuda Kenji's third Kamen Rider identity. (The first two were in Hibiki, as Zanki and Touki (movie).) The detransform is more 80's digital than Nago's.
* Whatever this episode's fangaia was, it didn't get its soul eaten either. But at least Jiro did destroy it.
* Megumi stops when she senses someone watching her. I wonder if the show is trying to hint that she's Jiro's daughter? (Which would make her half-Wolven to go with Wataru's half-Fangaia.) It wouldn't be the first time we get something unexpected with regards to a character's family. (See Hiyori and Hana)
12 preview:
* Yuri feels she should be IXA. She's not a happy camper with Jiro.
* That is, until he ends up in the hospital. Matsuda Kenji fanservice anyone?
* Nago's not looking too good either.
* Ah. Motorcycle chases. Fun.

Date: 2008-07-29 05:38 pm (UTC)I want Omura to come back too. He's a fangire who has gained Otoya's respect, after all. (And Otoya doesn't exactly bestow that honor to anyone...certainly not those he hangs out with at the cafe. True, he might respect some of them, but he just never seems to take any of them seriously.) However, I fear it's more likely that Omura was a one-shot deal.
So, why was a presumably 17-18 year old Yuri dressed in a middle-schooler's outfit?
To my untrained eyes, that sailor uniform also looked like the one for a high-schooler. Unless I really miss things with the collar and/or the way they tied the bow. Still, given that no one had said anything about it before, you're probably right and the wardrobe department most likely had goofed.
And I thought the third number on Yuri's marker was "0." I suppose it should be "9" now (still can't see it as "8").
