estiriseAs some of you know, I've been submitting fics to fanfiction.net. I thought I'd take a look at my numbers. The first LJ-cut is a reformatted table, in case anybody wants to look at the numbers. The second is some thoughts.
Well, obviously the fics that get hit the most are very old, or have a popular pairing. (I have no clue why people still hit "Losing Touch" - I guess I need to finish it?) So, it's no surprise that the old fics, by and large, have more hits than the new fics.
Of the fics that I've posted in the last few months, the most-hit is my Power Rangers Mystic Force one. Which also happens to be one of my few Mystic Force fanfics. It had the advantage of being in a larger fandom where I'm still known. I wonder what would happen if I posted one of my other PR fics up, such as the Cam one I wrote for my birthday?
The second most popular wasn't part of the original experiment. I'm figuring the popularity has to do with the word "furry", the word "children", and the fact that it centers around Ramon, who is very cute for a being that kills people. (I also have him thinking some nasty stuff, but it's his POV, so you really can't tell.)
Not surprisingly, newer series tend to beat out older series in numbers, and more popular series beat out less well-liked ones. The longest fic of my original experiment, "Boxed In", hits the middle-to-high range of the new series; it's somewhat hampered by the fact it's an AU. (If a good AU, if I say so myself.) But the Forever Knight fic I posted, "But Together", got pretty good hit amounts for a rather old series.
The Kamen Rider 555/Faiz/Phi's fics currently beat out my one fic of their successor (Kamen Rider Blade). I don't know if that's because 555 is more popular, because they've been posted longer, or what. It could be that most people are not quite as enamoured of the King of Spades as I am. The surprise is that the leader of that group is a fic featuring an original Orphenoch (Turns to Dust).
The bottom end of the list contains mostly newer fics. "Murfletuffle" and "Wanders Through Time" are just plain new fics, though surprisingly, "Wanders Through Time" is doing better on average despite the fact that its "chapters" are 200 words apiece. "Goodbye From Where It Hurts" suffers from being a Hibiki fic. "King's Chocolate" suffers from I don't know what, other than being Kamen Rider Blade. I think I should probably post one of my Mutsuki/Nozomi-centric fics for a comparison hit count. And the last fic, "Mocriproĉaj Vortoj", suffers from the fact that it's in Esperanto.
So, I'll continue posting "Wanders Through Time", find another Kamen Rider Blade and another Power Rangers fic to post, and what I'm curious about is how well a fic that would be stuck in the Misc TV category would do - I'm thinking of posting one of my Keitai Sousakan fics there. It'll be interesting, at least....
