Title: Pawn to Queen 2
Author: Estirose
Fandom: Kamen Rider Kiva
Spoilers: Late 20s-early 30s, especially 32-33.
Summary: Wataru's finding out more about things than he really wished.
Note: The necklace is inspired somewhat by the antics of the Leangle belt in Kamen Rider Blade and various jokes I made at the time with [livejournal.com profile] nalanzu about it. Also, I think my crackfic is still crackficcy, but it's now in three parts and growing. I'll have to remember to put all of them together when I'm done.

Wataru ran, acutely aware of the necklace around his neck. If Mio-san was right, then he had to get it off.

The necklace turned out to be easy to remove; he looked at the pearl set to hang below the fine gold chain. It was definitely very feminine.

And Wataru wasn't going to wear it, not if it meant accepting a role in the society of the Fangire. He saw a pond, tossed it in.

It appeared back around his neck, wet, seconds later.

Not wanting Bishop to catch up with him, he started to run, then stopped.

Two Queens.

Himself and Mio-san.

Rook, Bishop, Queen, King. Chess pieces. Bishop had made chess references. And Rook was part of the Checkmate Four.

Mio-san was Fangire. Bishop was Fangire. He was... Fangire?

He couldn't be. And if this necklace was going to make him Fangire, then he had to get it off... and soon. He had to get to the safety of his home, and hoped that Kivat would know how to fix things. He wasn't going to be Fangire and he wasn't going to be symbolically married to one.

Wataru stumbled back home, Kivat and Tatsulot hovering around him. He took off the necklace and showed it to Kivat. "I can take it off, but I can't keep it off," he said. "I don't want it on. And, I'm supposed to marry... supposed to marry...."

"The King, by custom, is a man," Kivat said. "I know that much. I suspect you'll be bound to him so that you and he know where the other is at all times."

"Can I refuse?" Wataru asked. He suspected he knew the answer.

"No," Kivat said. "Oh, couldn't you have been born King?"

"I don't think that's possible, Kivat," Wataru said, confused. "I'm not Fangire at all."

Kivat sighed. "Let me show you something... first I want you to stand in front of a mirror...."

* * *

Wataru sat on his bed in shock, Kivat and Tatsulot still hovering nearby. "I'm sorry, Wataru," Kivat said. "Your powers manifested as a Queen."

"So, I... I... I manifested the Queen's power when Bishop threatened me?" Wataru asked, staring at nothing in particular.

"Yes," Kivat said. "If I'd stayed closer, I could have warned you in time. Not that it wouldn't have happened eventually."

"So, what do I do next?" Wataru asked. "Mio-san's still out there, and I... I...."

"You become the ghost boy again," Kivat said grimly. "You drop out of peoples' sight. You lose everything you knew in order to save it and yourself."

"But Mio-san...." Wataru said, thinking of what Bishop could be doing to her at the moment. Or the King.

"Mio-san is a Queen, Wataru, she can defend herself. You have to hide, before they bond King to you and you can't run anymore."

Wataru hid his face in his hands. "But Megumi-san will wonder what happened to me, and then she'll drag me to the Mal'd'amour, and then Nago-san will yell at me and I can't explain why I'm wearing this necklace...."

"There, there, Wataru," Kivat said. "It'll pass. You have centuries now...."

Somehow, Wataru did not find that reassuring. "I don't want centuries."

"Your mother," Kivat said, "Studied violin making from Stradivarius."

The doorbell rang. Wataru went cautiously upstairs, studying the visitor from behind his curtains. It was nobody he recognized. "I wonder who he is...." he said, as he pondered whether to go downstairs.

"Wataru, no!" Kivat flew in front of him. "You have to sever your ties *now*. That means ignoring the doorbell."

"You're right," he said. He turned towards the window again, gazing at the figure below.

Up flew a flat white thing, which hovered before skimming to the window Kivat used to get in and out. It flew in, chittering at him for a moment, before flying back out the window. "What was that?" Wataru asked, curious as to what it was doing flying into his workshop.

"A Sagarc," Kivat said, after a second. "The man at the gate... he's the King."
