But with college classes and a paper due and real life happening, only a little fannish stuff happened.

Anyway, I'm going to dive back into my stuff, I thought I'd ask, since I'm a bit brainblocked on this.

Are genderbends considered OCs? I would think so, they're considered part of [livejournal.com profile] occhallenge, but I've only started writing them (a genderbended Wataru, in fact) so I'm not sure what to do.

It's really funny. This year, I've written three things I never thought I would: Genderbend, rape/noncon, and incest. But then, I'm having a very stressful year RL, so apparently that's how it manifests?

(The rape I took care to demonstrate as uncomfortable and traumatizing to the victim; she's still trying to cope with it. The incest was due to a very weird universe that reflected a mystical/sexualized version of the incest in certain societies in previous years. To the protagonist, it is wrong, but there's not much she can do about it.)

I think it would depend on what you mean by genderbends. If a character changes gender and there are both versions of this character around (can switch back and forth) in the fic, I would be a little hesitant to call the genderbended version an OC. But if there is the only genderbended version (born that way, or cursed from pretty much the beginning, or the change is permanent), and he/she is otherwise thinking/reacting in a way more like the gender he/she currently is than like his/her original (canon) gender, I would probably feel that character is more of an OC. As for the permanent change scenario, if the character is desperate to find a cure to change back, I would not say he/she is really an OC either.

(Sorry, I ramble, when you're probably only looking for a simple yes or no. Not sure if all the above would really be applicable, either, since...well, since, as you said, genderbends are apparently part of [livejournal.com profile] occhallenge, so maybe I've been misusing/misunderstanding the term. In any case, I'm sure genderbended Wataru would be very interesting.)

It's basically a character born female instead of the male version. So probably by what you're saying, she's an OC.
