"Stop dating that girl."

Wataru stared at his brother, trying not to gape. After everything that had happened, he'd ended up moving - best, he thought, to not run into Taiga everywhere and get into arguments with his older brother. Because he did, every single time nowadays.

But here Taiga was in his new home, far away from Tokyo, sitting grimly on Wataru's sofa, sipping at the water Wataru had provided.

"Why?" Wataru asked. Miko-san wasn't Mio-san, similarities of name notwithstanding, but she was a nice girl and Wataru liked her. He couldn't think of why he shouldn't be dating her, and Taiga's request - more like an order, in fact - mystified him even more.

"She's human." His brother's tone was laced with disgust. "You're Fangire."

The old argument again, again and again. His brother refused to accept his human blood, which was why he'd left. Obviously, Taiga knew what was going on in his life, though he wasn't sure why he bothered. It wasn't like his life was exciting.

"My father was human." He didn't look at Taiga as he spoke, knowing that the other disapproved. "I'm neither human nor Fangire, Taiga."

His brother made a frustrated noise, and then grabbed Wataru's shoulder with his gloved hand. "You are Fangire. You have to obey Fangire law. And Fangire law says that Fangire cannot love humans. Pain of death." His brother took a deep breath. "I nearly had to execute Mio because I thought she loved a human. I don't want to have to do the same to you, Wataru."

"Taiga," Wataru said, looking up at his older brother, "You don't have to. You could leave me alone." He could leave Wataru alone, really.

"I can't," Taiga told him, still gripping his shoulder. "You are my younger brother. I'm supposed to be looking after you. But I'm also King. You are Fangire. You have to obey Fangire law. I can't make an exception for you. Already, some know that the King's younger brother is dating a human. If I have to uphold Fangire law, I will. No matter how much it pains me."

"But I like Miko-san," Wataru said tiredly. Arguing with Taiga was like arguing with a brick wall, sometimes. Most of the time. It was why he no longer lived in the same city.

"Wataru," Taiga said, his tone softening and the grip on Wataru's shoulder "There are plenty of Fangire women out there. Somewhere, there's got to be one that you can love. If you need me to, I'll find you dates. But you can't continue this course. You have to let Miko go. Accept your true self. Because if you can't, if you continue this, you will die. And I will have to kill you."

"You could have before," Wataru said, thinking of the circumstances that made him leave Tokyo, "But you didn't."

"Because you're my little brother," Taiga told him, letting go of Wataru's shoulder reluctantly. "I don't want to kill you. And I won't let you go. So, please, listen to reason. Because if I have to come back over Miko... it won't be pleasant."

Wataru's older brother stood up, placing the glass down on the table. "I only want what's best for you, Wataru. Remember that."

As he left, Wataru stared after him. He wished that Taiga only did.

My impression of this fiction is that the title is very appropriate. It seems to me that both brother's are talking to a brick wall. Both are stubborn. One brother is telling about his feelings (aka Wataru) on what he is. The other brother is telling about the reality of Fangire politics (aka Taiga). Whether Wataru like it or not, it seems to me the rest of Fangire society will view him as a Fangire because he is from the royal line. Thus, will expect Taiga to not play favouritism.
