This particular fic was inspired by... way too much reading of government code sections. And probably too many random facts.
The Rangers slumped at Dr. O's house, absolutely exhausted. For once, it wasn't Mesogog; he was staying out of trouble, at least for the moment. No, they'd volunteered - well, been volunteered for - school cleanup day by the sadistic principal. At least Dr. O had been spared from 'volunteering', and he'd been upstairs working on a project.
"I can't believe kids in Japan clean up their school every day," Conner moaned.
"But they do," Ethan told him, slumping against a couch. "I can't believe she made us do that."
"At least it was us and half the school, guys," Kira pointed out. She was strumming her guitar, but her chords were random, as if she couldn't concentrate on what she was playing. She glanced over at Trent, who was sound asleep.
"She still gave us the backbreaking jobs. I can't believe that a principal could get away with that without breaking labor laws!"
"Hey, Dad was researching it, and she can," Ethan said. "It's some special sadistic provision in the labor code."
"Sadistic is right," Conner moaned. "Where'd they come up with that, anyway?"
"I guess it was imported from Japan," Kira said.
"Or maybe it's not in the labor code in the first place," Hayley told them, turning around from the computers. "I can find no mention of allowing minors to work on a volunteer basis to clean up their school. Where did your father find that, Ethan?"
"On the Internet. Our local office said something about it and referred him to the code. It was 415.26, he said."
"415.26 doesn't exist, Ethan," Hayley pointed out. "Something's wrong here."
"But why would the principal want to tire the entire school out by making them clean things up?" Kira wondered.
"I don't know," Hayley said. "But I think we should investigate further. As soon as you get some rest. All of you, not just Trent."
"I can't believe he fell asleep just like that," Ethan complained. "That's not even comfortable!"
"Trent slept through that whole dream thing," Kira said. "I think he can fall asleep on anything."
"Lucky him," Conner muttered.
"Hey, maybe the principal's being mind controlled," Kira said, brightening a little.
"Maybe," Hayley said. "In the meantime, rest."
"Yes, mom," Conner muttered.

The Rangers converged at Dr. O's house as soon as they had some rest, knowing that neither Hayley nor Dr. O would let them back until they got some sleep.
"So, anybody have any idea what's going on?" Conner asked, idly tossing a mini soccer ball back and forth.
"That code section still doesn't exist," Hayley said, Dr O looking over her shoulder. "Something's wrong here."
"Think that the Principal's sadistic enough to be influenced by Mesogog?" Ethan asked.
"That woman is probably sadistic enough to be influenced by a snail," Kira muttered.
"If the idea was to wear us out," Trent murmured, "He did a good job."
"But nothing attacked," Kira said. "At least, not yet."
Hayley's hands flew over the keyboard. "I wouldn't say that."
The teens groaned. "You had to say something," Ethan said, as they levered themselves up.

Many exhausting minutes later, the five Rangers returned back to Dr. O's house and the Lab. "So, Mesogog needed to distract all of us," Trent said. "By inserting a fictitious regulation, prompting the principal to make us work all day, and making sure that we were somewhere else."
"That could have been pretty nasty," Ethan said.
"It already was nasty," Kira said. "Ew!"
"Look at it this way," Hayley said. "It's all behind you, there's no regulation, and we can all rest easy... at least for ten minutes."
"You're telling me," Trent said.
"We know who sleeps the sleep of the dead, too," Kira teased. Trent blushed.
"Speaking of tired," Dr. O said, "Let's all get some rest. I think we all need it."
"I'd agree with that," Kira said.
"Sounds good to me," Conner said, already ready to go home.
"Call us if anything comes up," Trent said.
"I will," Hayley promised. "Really."
The teens fled the Lab to get some rest. At least Mesogog's plans were foiled... for the moment.
