I believe firmly that a very large amount of people write D&D-based fic at some point in their lives. Here is mine. This one is rather short, but maybe someday I'll come play more in it. It's based on a second-edition module written by, I believe, Monte Cook.

"So, this is how we get to where the paladin's at," Losia sniffed the air disdainfully, the decorations - snake-figures - not to her taste. She tapped her tusks, not liking the place at all. Behind her, Angea poked carefully at the area around her; their rogue didn't need any convincing to go poking everywhere - including places she wasn't wanted.
"Aye," Metheria, clad in her mail, said. She had her sword at quick hand; her draw had saved Losia's life more than once, so Losia wasn't complaining. Their companion, Magaritha, was poking around the floor. Crazy, Losia felt, she should have left it to Angea. But since when did wizards have sense?
The final member of their party, Anatha, had her eyes closed. If there was anything stranger than wizards, it was mind-wizards like Anatha.
Magaritha opened a hatch that Losia hadn't noticed before. She wished that the wizard would explain thing before opening random hatches that could lead to danger. There was a stench coming from the room below. "Are you sure that this is the correct hatch, Wizard?" she asked.
"Yes," Magaritha said. "The other three are said to be trapped; this is the only one that should not be."
"The stench irritates me," Losia said. "I don't like it."
"It's just a job," Angea said flippantly. "We'll get the Paladin out of this place and be out of here, quickly."
Magaritha grimaced, probably at the smell, but Losia couldn't tell for sure. "This place is dangerous," she pointed out.
"Not any more dangerous than the last few places we've gotten in and out of," Angea said. "Stop being so worried."
"I'll stop being worried when we and he are out of here," Magaritha said. "We have a long way to go, halfling, and this may be an adventure equal to Acererak's tomb."
Losia sighed. Angea was too bouncy; Magaritha too willing to go into danger. As usual, it would be up to her to save the day.
