I've been thinking more about putting up something similiar to [livejournal.com profile] pr_icontest, which is a contest for Power Rangers icons for the Tokusatsu fandom(s).

How it works: Each week, the maintainer(s) give the participants a theme, whether it be color, emotion, lyrics, or something else. The participants make icons over the course of a week (they have to be new icons), and post them so that only the maintainer(s) can see them and make sure they follow the rules. Then the maintainer(s) post them up and the community votes on their three choices. The maintainer(s) count the vote, post up the winners, and often make banners for the winners. One doesn't have to make icons to be a participant in the comm.

The pros: It would be nice to see more Tokusatsu icons.
The cons: It's one more thing to do (I already do the Thursday [livejournal.com profile] finalauraburst entry, among other things), and there's a heck of a whole lot more Tokusatsu than there is PR.

So, what do the random people reading this post think?

Um, I think no, but not for that reason. I belong to a lot of icontest communities, and there are serious problems getting enough icons to hold a proper voting in significantly larger fandoms, no less getting people to actually vote on them. I just don't think there are enough icon makers in the community right now to make an icontest feasible. Although, I *really, really* wish there were.

In other words, we need to grow more icon makers. Hm. This'll be interesting. (PR Icontest seems to have luck in 95% of the time getting enough voters, but sometimes not enough icon makers.)

I wish there were, too. We need more icons.
