I've been working again at my OC archive (I write a lot of 'em, I have to say), and thinking of my earlier post. Well, part of it, anyway. Considering my output of OCs, I really probably should broaden my horizons and read some Toku OCs.

Now, I'm still primarily a KR fan; Sentai teams don't do much for me (though I should read [livejournal.com profile] softpixels' Roboman anyway). I wouldn't know most canon Ultramen from fan-made ones. So, with that in mind, anybody have any recs for OC Riders or other OC tokus?

Here's my taste, when it comes down to it:
* I like good spelling and grammar.
* I'm not a really big fan of lengthy fight scenes. It's not what I watch the shows for. I'm more interested in characterization. (Yes, I realize a lot of what I watch is aimed at male Japanese six year olds. But they do have the characterization in there for the moms, at least.)
* I'm not into macho guys. I'm more interested, again, in how people interact than how people blow the MOTW up. I do not need three paragraphs about a gun or other weapon unless those three paragraphs are really relevant to the rest of the plot.

(I'd say I want to read stories about women riders, but those are extremely rare; I can think of Igadevil's Kamen Rider Sigma off the top of my head. Sentai OC teams with strong female characters/rangers would also be interesting.)
I was just thinking about the Mary Sue Litmus tests lately while working on archiving my OCs. (In fact, two of my characters are variantly-named "Mary Sue", though probably they're not obvious.) The popularity of litmus tests have waxed and waned over the years I've been familiar with them, and I bet at least some people argue that they're now way out of style.

Litmus tests also exist in most of my fandoms (even though some are a bit tough to find), though not in tokusatsu fandoms. I'm not sure if the fans are just not interested, that we don't have as much a problem, or just, as before, the idea/popularity of the litmus test has faded.

Pondering Tokusatsu (and, in particular, Kamen Rider) mary sues/gary stus and litmus tests )

EDIT: Yes, my 'S' key is giving me problems, why do you ask?
